In a time when the issue regarding gender equality is widely discussed and it is a relevant topic in social and political debates I decided to investigate the relationship between gender equality and communication design.
Historically, mass communication, brought forward an overall strict view on gender identity, passing on trivializing stereotyped images. The dissertation investigates today’s social context to define action points and the social responsabilities of the communication.
Furthermore, this paper explores the history of the feminist movement in its phases, paying special attention to those groups and movements that define visual communication as a powerful tool in the fight for women’s rights.
The thesis, thanks to these notions, suggests an ethical model which can be effective for a communication on behalf of gender equality, applying it in a project in collaboration with a no-profit organization.
